THE nation’s favourite autumn drink has returned but coffee lovers are finding ways to make it at home for a fraction of the price.

Starbucks’ version can set you back up to £6.15Starbucks Monin have released a cheap and easy way to make the popular drink at home

But the price has crept up again, with the smallest size now £4.90, which is 25p more than last year, and a hefty jump from £3.65 in 2022.

A tall version will set you back £6.15.

For many, that’s a pricey way to get a taste of autumn.

Luckily, savvy shoppers have discovered a way to recreate the cosy classic in minutes and it’s every bit as delicious.

Monin posted a brand new recipe on its TikTok and it’s already got autumn drink lovers in a chokehold.

The quick recipe calls for 20ml of Monin pumpkin spice syrup, 150ml of milk, ice and a double espresso shot.

    Buy the Monin syrup

Simply add the syrup, pour in the milk, drop in the ice, then top with the espresso.

Finish with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon for that signature Starbucks-style look.

    Save money

Right now, a 70cl bottle of Monin syrup costs just £7.90 from Drinkstuff, giving you enough to make dozens of lattes all season long.

Fans of the syrup have shared their excitement as the recipe dropped.

One user said: “Dreaming of one”.

“Another added: “It’s so good too, I never use anything else anymore.”

While a third suggested even tweaking the recipe with some fun alternatives.

They said: “We really like adding the hazelnut one”.

Bargain hunters have even spotted bottles for £4.99 in TK Maxx, while some Tesco stores have also been spotted discounting the brand.

With one tall Starbucks latte costing over £6, a single bottle of syrup could save shoppers more than £100 across autumn.

The Starbucks version remains hugely popular, combining espresso with pumpkin spice flavouring, steamed milk and a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves.

But as prices climb, at-home alternatives are looking more appealing.

And it’s not just Starbucks cashing in on the trend.

Greggs has launched its own Pumpkin Spice Latte, priced from just £2.75, making it one of the cheapest options on the high street.

They’ve also brought in some fun pumpkin spiced treats.

Costa Coffee, meanwhile, has skipped the pumpkin craze altogether in favour of its returning Maple Hazel range, including lattes, hot chocolates and frappés.

Whether bought from a café or whipped up at home, the Pumpkin Spiced Latte remains the ultimate autumn favourite, but this year, the thrifty DIY version is giving Starbucks a serious run for its money.

Why is everyone obsessed with Pumpkin Spice?

Pumpkin spice has become a cultural phenomenon, a staple flavour and scent as autumn begins.

No surprise, it originated from America, referencing the pumpkin spice mix used to flavour Thanksgiving’s pumpkin pie.

Matt Johnson, PhD explained the psychology behind our obsession with pumpkin spice. He said: “With each passing fall season, pumpkin spice becomes more and more iconic.

“The flavour and scent [have] become inextricably tied to memories of autumn, Christmas holidays and traditions, creating an emotional connection that brands capitalise on.”

The professor explained how the general flavour or pumpkin spice is “rooted in the seasonal foods we typically enjoy during autumn”, and has become so iconic, it returns bigger and better every year.

Not only does it impact food and drinks, but autumnal interior design has exploded over the past few years, and households actively decorate their houses with seasonal displays.
