MURRAY, N.Y. — Crews removed a U-Haul from the Erie Canal Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies say was driven into the canal during a chase Tuesday night.
Deputies say the U-Haul crashed near the border of Monroe and Orleans counties, around the Sans Souci Park. They say two men were seen stealing items from Walgreens in Brockport at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
After police tried to pull the truck over, deputies say the men led police on a pursuit through western Monroe and eastern Orleans counties, ending up on the canal path at Sans Souci Park and crashing into the canal.

Early Wednesday morning, deputies confirmed a man’s body was pulled from the canal. Also on Wednesday, News10NBC crews saw the U-Haul still in the canal and getting pulled out of the water.
According to Sgt. Brendan Hurley, one of the men made it to the other side of the canal safely and was taken into custody. Hurley said the other man whose body was found was seen going under the water Tuesday night and was eventually found after a thorough search.
