We got it started early this morning with a look at Corey Pronman’s ranking of the top under-23 players and prospects in the NHL. The Blackhawks tied with the Sharks with a league-leading 11 players on the list. I will say once again that these rankings are the perspective of a single writer/analyst and not gospel. The reason I share multiple lists of player and pipeline rankings is so we can compare and contracts the opinions and perspectives of different writers who consider young talent. Take everything with a grain of salt.
And remember: the ultimate goal is to win enough games that there’s a parade at some point, not to win the prospect rankings championship forever. But the quality of the players the organization is building with and around is the stairway to that level from where the Blackhawks (and Sharks) are right now.

— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) September 2, 2025 There are general manager meeting happening this week in Detroit. Expectations are that the Canadiens will be aggressively trying to move Carey Price’s contract so they can add another body (or two), but might need some help trying to accomplish that. As Renaud Lavoie wrote this weekend (translated from French): “with all the teams guaranteed to start the season within the salary cap, Kent Hughes is, in a way, in a weak position and will likely have to agree to give a draft pick to the team that acquires Price’s contract.” I will also be interested to see if the GM meetings today and tomorrow spark any new trade action around the league. We’re now a couple weeks away from training camps opening, do it’s time to make some very early roster decisions. The Blackhawks still haven’t signed Wyatt Kaiser, and they still have three goaltenders on their NHL roster (assuming Laurent Brossoit exists/is healthy enough to play). And there’s the whole “what to do with Lukas Reichel” conversation as well. The Blackhawks are expected to be one of the interested parties in Price’s contract. So we’ll see if anything happens in the next couple days. Yesterday I shared where all of the Blackhawks’ prospects who won’t be in Rockford or Chicago are playing this season. There are a few more in Europe and less in college than previous years, headlined by Anton Frondell hitting the ice in Sweden.Where Are the Blackhawks Non-NHL, AHL Prospects Playing This Season? #blackhawks t.co/rXJxFMGPgh
— Bleacher Nation Blackhawks (@BN_Blackhawks) September 1, 2025 Nice read here from last week from Salim Valji on Connor Bedard and Macklin Celebrini in the mix for spots on Canada’s Olympic team. He included one funny quote from Bedard, who was talking about Panthers forward and Conn Smythe winner Sam Bennett, with whom he roomed for the camp:“He’s probably the most-hated guy in the league, but a super nice guy,” Bedard said. “Which is funny. You play against him and he’s trying to kill you, and then you’re buddies.”
