Late in the year, among the many reclamation arms still at Triple-A Iowa, I feel like I was hearing a fair bit about Gabe Klobosits. The 31-year-old reliever was making his return to affiliated ball for the first time since 2023, and was close to unhittable in August and September after coming back from an injury. It was a tiny sample, and not enough for the pitching-needy big league Cubs to give him a shot, but the reports suggested he was a guy who could still have a future in this game.
For that reason, I was pleased to see that he was the first minor league signing of the offseason for the Cubs.

I’m sure the Cubs were eager to get another offseason to work with him, and all the better that they got a deal done right away. Maybe he turns a corner, maybe not, but the Cubs have to take lots of swings like this every offseason (in addition to bringing in some surer things).
