Opta Analyst’s FCS football coverage includes weekly national player and team honors throughout the regular season and will lead toward the annual season-ending Stats Perform FCS National Awards Presentation on Jan. 3, 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Gardner-Webb’s Nate Hampton, Youngstown State’s Dathan Hickey, Furman’s Ian Williams and UC Davis’ Cade Pinnick were selected Monday as the Stats Perform FCS National Players of the Week for weeks 0 and 1 college football games through Saturday.

In addition, Tarleton State was named the Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week.

The weekly honors lead up to the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Presentation on Jan. 3 in Nashville, Tennessee. The season-ending awards are in their 39th season.

The five honorees plus honorable mention selections for the FCS National Awards:

FCS National Offensive Player of the Week

    Nate Hampton, Gardner-Webb, QB, Grad, 6-6, 240

After a sluggish start, the Liberty transfer accounted for six touchdowns to fuel G-W’s largest comeback win ever, a rally from 35-7 down to 52-45 at then-No. 18 Western Carolina. He finished with 395 yards of total offense – more than he had in his first four seasons combined – 263 through the air with two touchdowns and 132 on the ground with four scores. The win was G-W’s first on the road over a nationally ranked team since 2016.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Body, QB, Alabama State; Cole LaCrue, QB, Eastern Illinois; Gavin Nelson, WR, Monmouth; Treyvhon Saunders, WR, Colgate

FCS National Defensive Player of the Week

Dathan Hickey, Youngstown State, S, Grad, 6-1, 200

After missing last season with an injury, the former Yale player came back strong with 13 tackles, including 10 solos, and two takeaways as the Penguins defeated Mercyhurst 24-15. His two biggest plays occurred in YSU territory – a forced fumble and recovery in the second quarter, then an interception with a 21-yard return in the fourth.

Honorable Mention: Taylen Blaylock, S, Furman; Jonathan Cabral-Martin, DB, Northern Iowa; Rex Connors, S, UC Davis; Rafael Fasolino, LB, LIU; Joshua Iseah, LB, North Carolina A&T; Quincy Ivory, DE, Jackson State; Joe Mason, DT, Nicholls; Hayward McQueen Jr., LB, Western Carolina; Kenny Olson, LB, Cal Poly

FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week

    Ian Williams, Furman, PK/P, Grad, 6-4, 226

The preseason first-team All-American gave Furman the leg up as its rallied past William & Mary 23-21. He scored the final nine points of the second half on field goals of 50, 42, and 32 (with 2:43 left) yards. He also made two PATs to finish with 11 points, and averaged 46.6 yards on five punts and 64.5 yards on six kickoffs.

Honorable Mention: Alijah Cason, KR, Holy Cross; Mike Ryan, P, Merrimack

FCS National Freshman Player of the Week

Cade Pinnick, UC Davis, QB, R-Fr., 6-0, 200

Pinnick’s strong performance against Mercer in Week 0 was wiped out when inclement weather caused the game to be declared a “no contest,” so he went out and threw three touchdown passes as UC Davis scored the final 24 points of a 31-24 win at Utah Tech. Pinnick, who has replaced 2024 FCS passing yardage leader Miles Hastings, finished 21 of 31 for 253 yards and one interception.

Honorable Mention: Xai’Shaun Edwards, RB, Houston Christian; Chase Hatton, S, Marist; Dallin Havea, LB, Utah Tech; Andrew Indorf, QB, Towson; Lamont Lester Jr., DL, Monmouth; Tre Page III, RB, Tarleton State

Stats Perform FCS National Team of the Week

Tarleton State (42-0 win at Portland State; 30-27, 2-OT win at Army)

Coach Todd Whitten’s team delivered a Week 0 shutout behind Tre Page III (170 rushing yards, two touchdowns) and Omar Emmons (pick-six). The Texans then posted the second FBS win in program history after Brad Larson kicked field goals in both overtimes. Defensive back Kasyus Kurns pocketed two interceptions and a fumble recovery against last year’s American Athletic Conference champ.

Honorable Mention: Austin Peay (34-14 win at Middle Tennessee); Northwestern State (20-10 win over Alcorn State); Presbyterian (15-10 win at then-No. 11 Mercer)
