San Diego Community Power’s Community Clean Energy program is awarding 14 local organizations $1 million in grant funds, including the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans.
San Diego Community Power, the San Diego Foundation, and Calpine Community Energy are announcing the list of grant recipients next week.
PANA is a community organizing, public policy and research hub that promotes the fair treatment of refugee communities, according to its website. In 2024, PANA launched the Refugee and Immigrant Culture Hub site, intended to serve as a housing and cultural center for refugees and immigrants on a 2.2 acre lot of land.
Since then, the program has sustainably fostered more than 150 affordable housing units, a global marketplace and community space.
PANA plans to advance this program with the new grant funds.
Other nonprofits similar to PANA will also be in attendance to receive grant funds. City Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera will also join the event.
This is the third year that Community Power and the San Diego Foundation are rewarding local groups for their work in solving social issues while utilizing clean energy. In 2024, the program awarded $1.2 million to 16 recipients, allocating $100,000 per project.
In 2023, the program reported an increase in energy literacy among 5,394 community members, 1,732 households gaining energy awareness and an increase of support for green job and internship opportunities – all as a result of the grant initiative.
