ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The 5th annual back-to-school giveaway took place at the Tops Plaza Friday.
The event provided notebooks, pencils, pens, backpacks, and clothing to families in need.
“I think kids feel good when they have something new, a book bag and things to fulfill them,” said RCSD School Commissioner Jacqueline Griffin. “We don’t know the needs of our community so I think it’s good for us to give to the community so people don’t feel like they have to beg it can just be given.”
Griffin said she believes in giving back to the community, adding that as a member of the community for 55 years, it’s fulfilling to partner with all the sponsors to support families and students.
The event was organized by Griffin and other local groups including People Choice, PAB, Sen. Jeremy Cooney, Lullaby Daycare, Bree’s Daycare, Brown Publishing, Visions Barber Shop, City of Rochester Vice President LaShay D. Harris, SNUG, and The Dogg Pound Inc.
