Geneva, SANA- the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syria stands in solidarity with families of the missing.
The commission said on “X” platform that “Protecting all persons from the risk of enforced disappearance is an obligation that falls on the authorities”, reiterating the need to hold those involved in these violations accountable.
The Syrian authorities have taken important steps in this regard, as the Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic issued a decree on May 17th to form the “National Authority for Missing Persons” as an independent body.
It aims to uncover the fate of the Assad regime’s thousands of missing persons in Syria, provide justice to their families, and provide them with legal humanitarian support, in addition to documenting the cases of missing and forcibly disappeared persons, and establishing a national database for these cases.
