The NFL regular season kicks off in one week. Seven days from now, we’ll be gearing up for the start of Week 1 by stuffing our faces with pizza among friends. Can you think of a better way of doing it? I suppose positive news from the Chicago Bears injury front would help.
Chicago’s football team opens its regular season slate of games in 11 days. That gives some of the team’s injured players an opportunity to rest up and heal ahead of kickoff time on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings.
Chicago Bears Injury Watch: Updates on Jaylon Johnson, Jaquan Brisker, and Others
Well, this wasn’t a tweet I wanted to see this close to the start of Week 1:Jaquan Brisker walked off the practice field today with trainer Andre Tucker. After getting checked out, he took a cart back to the building. Unclear exactly what happened. #Bears

One of my major takeaways from the 2024 season is that Jaquan Brisker is the heartbeat of the Bears’ defense. His energy and style of play is not only fun to watch, but it is also something that his teammates feed off of when he is in the lineup. It is not a coincidence that the defensive fall-off last season coincided with Brisker’s absence due to a concussion. This isn’t to say that Elijah Hicks and Jonathan Owens didn’t do a good job filling in for Brisker. They did. It’s just that replacing production and presence are two different things. The Tribune’s Sean Hammond snags a quote from Bears Special Teams Coordinator Richard Hightower, whose unit will be without running back Travis Homer (calf) and linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga (shoulder) — a pair of core special teams contributors that the team brought back early in free agency:“I don’t want to understate the fact that you’re asking about Amen and Homer, that they’re really good contributors for us. They do an outstanding job. They are productive. But that happens in this business. So the young guys have been challenged and they’ve got to step up rock and roll.”
In addition to Homer’s absence, fellow running backs Roschon Johnson (foot) and Kyle Monangai (soft tissue) sat out while nursing their respective injuries. It is the D’Andre Swift show in the backfield until further notice. Other players who were non-participants in the last training camp practice: Linebacker T.J. Edwards (undisclosed), defensive ends Dominique Robinson (undisclosed) and Austin Booker (knee), and cornerback Josh Blackwell (undisclosed). Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson also didn’t practice. But after being removed from the non-football injury list, Johnson can get back on the field at any time. After watching Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Patrick Mahomes carve up Chicago’s secondary, Bears fans will welcome Johnson back into the mix with open arms.
