There's no question that being a rock star comes with lots of perks...but there's no shortage of risk involved, as legendary Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant knows all too well.
In a resurfaced clip from 2012, Plant and his band The Sensational Space Shifters were just wrapping up their performance of the Led Zeppelin classic "Rock and Roll" during a concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when Plant was tackled by an audience member who seemed intent on delivering a powerful hug. The singer saw the fan coming and braced himself for impact at the same time that a roadie jumped into action and tried to defend Plant, inadvertently knocking the singer to the ground before the fan was escorted off the stage.
Plant, for his part, got back on his feet with surprising speed and grace, considering he was 64 years old at the time.
Commenters on an Instagram post sharing the video couldn't get over Plant's fast reflexes, with one admitting, "I'm 37 and I can't get up as quick as Robert did!"
"That was the coolest way he could've handled that," a second person agreed.
"Protect that man at all costs, he is a WORLD treasure," someone else declared, as another commenter added, "I can't imagine anyone attacking Robert Plant. He is such a kind man."
Indeed, as Blabbermouth reported at the time, after Plant got back on his feet, he was heard saying asking the roadies to go "easy" on the fan, who was not armed. Thankfully, Plant wasn't injured in the incident.
How does Robert Plant feel about his fans?
In a 2022 interview with Rolling Stone, Plant opened up about how he reacts when fans approach him, expressing gratitude for their support.
“I’m flattered when people are kind, but it’s not the be-all and end-all. So what do I do? I’m a guy who got older. And the thing is I can still do all the s—t that I could do before, because occasionally through these shows I let it rip for a minute, and I know very well that that’s as much as we need to do of that, because that’s it.”
“So when I meet people, depending on their personalities or the excitement or their disappointment, it’s just another meeting in another place," Plant continued, adding, "I’m a pretty public person. I mean, I don’t have to go in the telephone booth to get changed and come out with no shirt on. That might be a bit risky now. But you just keep moving and take everything as it comes around the corner."
If there's one thing Plant proved during his too-close encounter in Argentina, it's that he knows how to keep moving...no matter what.
