The Baltimore Ravens did not hesitate in extending their star safety for the long-term, and reset the market by doing so.

Hamilton’s four-year, $100 million extension makes him the highest-paid safety in the NFL, with $82 million guaranteed.

The multi-year extension, which secures the 24-year-old’s future with the Ravens through the 2030 season, comes less than six months after Baltimore picked up Hamilton’s fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

Now, he joins franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson as the only other Raven whose contract is valued at over $100 million.

It’s been a crazy summer for Hamilton, having proposed to his long-time girlfriend Reese Damm, who took to her Instagram story to speak about her fiancé’s historic deal, in June

“Could not be more proud,” she wrote.

Damm, a musician, wasn’t the only one to congratulate Hamilton on his extension, with his teammate Marlon Humphrey jumping to his Instagram story to give a humorous response.

“Jokes on me cause I gave this dude a discount on my condo,” the four-time Pro Bowler wrote.

Why is Kyle Hamilton paid so much?

Hamilton was selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and made a statement since virtually his first snap.

Despite only having been in the league for three seasons, Hamilton has already racked up 250 tackles (186 solo), 18 tackles for loss, 15 QB hits and five interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

He has already been named to the Pro Bowl twice, and earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2023.

General manager Eric DeCosta addressed the media on Wednesday to discuss Hamilton and his extension.

“One of the things you love about Kyle is he’s kind of a unicorn,” he said. “He can do many different things. He does them all very well.

“I think the deal really does speak to how we feel about Kyle. The highest-paid safety in the NFL, that’s a responsibility that we don’t take lightly.

“I think Kyle has proven that he’s going to carry that very well, and we expect him to continue to be an impact player on our defense for years to come.”

DeCosta has been cooking up all sorts for the Ravens this off-season, having also locked up five-time Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry to a two-year, $30 million extension, $25 million of which is guaranteed.

This deal was also historic as it was the biggest ever handed to a RB over the age of 30.

The Ravens GM was also able to attract cornerback Jaire Alexander to join the team, just 24 hours after Jackson’s admission in a training press conference in June about wanting the opportunity to play with him.

Veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins also joined the Flock’s receiving corps as the Ravens bid to finally make a Super Bowl appearance.

After years of getting close to reaching the Super Bowl before flailing out – usually at the hands of the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs – with a full season of Jackson and Henry in the backfield under their belts, the Ravens are hoping that this is finally the year in which they can overcome the hurdles of the AFC playoffs and lift the Vince Lombardi trophy once again.
