Veteran Team India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara on Sunday, August 24, announced his retirement from all formats of Indian cricket. The right-handed batter took to his social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the news with fans.
Cheteshwar Pujara was the backbone of India’s Test batting. He last played for India in the 2023 World Test Championship final. Pujara scored 7,195 runs in 176 innings at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. The veteran cricketer played just five ODI matches in his entire career.

Cheteshwar Pujara said that he gave his best on the field while playing for India. He expressed gratitude to fans for their unwavering support and added that the time had come to bring his career in Indian cricket to a close.
"Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field - it’s impossible to put into words what it truly meant," Pujara wrote.
"But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you for all the love and support! ?," he added.
