The Israeli army has dismissed 15 air force officers, one of them a brigadier general, after they signed a petition calling for an end to the war on Gaza in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages, the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on Friday.
The newspaper said that some of these officers were supposed to participate in the attack on Iran, but were not called up for reserve duty because of their signatures on the petition.
The officers reportedly filed appeal with the Israeli Supreme Court demanding that the army reverse its decision and reinstate them.
It explained that the officers, from aircrew with the rank of major to major general, served in various positions in the Air Force reserves.
All of them served in the reserves until after October 7, 2023.
The report added that the highest-ranking officer, a major general serving in an aviation school, has been suspended from reserve duty until further notice.
It noted that 17 other Air Force reservists who signed the petition have been temporarily suspended from service, and some were reinstated after agreeing to a request to remove their signatures.
The newspaper pointed out that the petition asserted that the officers were dismissed and suspended from reserve duty without a hearing, without logic, and in a collective and arbitrary manner, in violation of the provisions of the law and administrative law.
