Most cooks know that you actually shouldn't add oil to the water. It was once touted as a method to keep the pot from boiling over. But really, it just coats the noodles, preventing sauce from sticking to them the way it should. No one batted an eye at that answer, but what came next definitely got viewers talking.

♬ original sound - Food NetworkFlay was asked, "Do you wash your chicken?"
He confessed, "I wash my chicken before I cook it."
Then, when asked if he rinses his rice, the celebrated chef confidently said, "I do not."
The USDA does not recommend washing chicken before cooking it because it increases the chance of spreading bacteria in the kitchen and cross-contaminating other foods.
When it comes to rinsing rice, it's not as serious, but it's still generally considered a faux pas to ignore this step and dump rice straight into water to cook it. Consumer Reportsexplains that the reason for rinsing rice is to remove excess starch, dust, and dirt from the grains, which will result in fluffier cooked rice.
Flay also answered that cats were allowed in the kitchen when asked about animals, which certainly had some fans in their feelings.

Someone else agreed, writing, "The fact that he allows cats in the kitchen is wild."
