Alejandro Garnacho has told pals he is joining Chelsea, talkSPORT understands.
Garnacho has no future at Manchester United after a public fallout with manager Ruben Amorim in the aftermath of last season’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao.
It is believed Chelsea officials have instructed Garnacho to be patient and bide his time before they sign him and club-to-club talks are expected to accelerate in the coming days.
United have been quoting potential suitors a transfer fee in the region of £50million for their academy graduate.
Chelsea believe they can be negotiated down owing to the Argentine’s toxic relationship with Amorim.
Toon scout latest striker target
Newcastle have run background checks on Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, but it would take a mega offer to prise him away from Molineux.
Strand Larsen is emerging as a potential option for the Magpies as their pursuit of Yoane Wissa continues to stall.
talkSPORT can reveal Toon boss Eddie Howe has spoken to at least one of the Norwegian’s former coaches to get a character reference on the 25-year-old.
Wolves have no desire to sell Strand Larsen, who is now seen as their main source of goals following Matheus Cunha’s departure to Manchester United.
Newcastle still hope to sign two strikers but, as exclusively revealed by talkSPORT on Monday, Brentford are blocking Wissa’s exit, while talks with Porto for Samu have also broken down.
Eze out, new star in?
Crystal Palace are the latest Premier League club to show an interest in Southampton teenage sensation Tyler Dibling.
Palace have shortlisted Dibling as a potential replacement for Tottenham target Eberechi Eze.
Palace are the latest club to join the race for Dibling – but Southampton are playing hard ball over the youngster’s futureGettyThe Eagles are also among a number of suitors for Dibling’s Saints teammate Matheus Fernandes.
However, Saints have proven ruthless negotiators this summer after rejecting an offer worth £45m from Everton for Dibling and a £30m bid from West Ham for Fernandes.
Palace would ideally like to sign an heir to Eze before sanctioning his move across the capital to Tottenham.
United stand by their man
Manchester United are unlikely to sign a goalkeeper before the transfer window closes.
United have been linked with PSG outcast Gianluigi Donnarumma and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez, as well as a shock return for David de Gea.
But talkSPORT understands a new number one is not seen as a priority in what remains of the transfer window, and Andre Onana retains the confidence of manager Ruben Amorim.
Onana missed all of Man United’s pre-season and the club was linked with a host of new goalkeepers this summer – but it’s understood they will stick by their No.1Getty Read Alex Crook’s transfer notebook every week on talkSPORT.comSources close to United say that, based on data, the Cameroon international Onana fairs kindly compared to most Premier League stoppers.
Amorim also publicly backed Onana’s understudy Altay Bayindir after he was blamed for the goal that United conceded from a corner in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal.
Onana, who missed all of pre-season injured, is expected to be back in goal for this weekend’s trip to Fulham.
