Victor Robles has had a wild career trajectory. He was a breakout prospect as a teenager and became one of the ten best in the sport. He arrived in the big leagues at just 20 years old, and looked like he might be a star in his early-20s. Then he slumped hard and for several years, before the Nationals finally just cut bait and it kinda looked like his career might be over before he even reached his late-20s. Then Robles caught on with the Mariners in 2024, exploded at the plate, and signed a multi-year deal. No one would’ve seen that coming a year earlier. So many twists and unexpected turns.
Well, uh, there’s another one now.
On a rehab assignment for his shoulder, Victor Robles has been playing at Triple-A Tacoma, and apparently got tired of getting hit by pitches this week.

But you can tell it was not intentional, obviously, and even if it were, you can’t go THROWING THE BAT at someone. Imagine if it hit the pitcher and cracked his skull. You’d be going to jail, and your future in baseball would be the least of your concerns.
Thankfully, the pitcher did not get clobbered by the bat, which means baseball concerns are the only ones at issue for Victor Robles, who is still only 28 years old. A suspension is a foregone conclusion at this point, and it’s just a question of how long and whether the Mariners cut ties. Robles is signed through next season with a team option for 2027. But this was really ugly.
