The best things I did for my baseball brain’s mental health was to decide two weeks ago that I was done caring about the Milwaukee Brewers. They are clearly going to do what they are going to do and blow out the NL Central, so eff it. Not gonna keep twisting myself up in knots trying to figure out how they do absurd stuff every single day like coming back from 8-1 to beat the Reds last night.
Heck, it’s better for the Cubs for the Reds to lose right now anyway …

He had a two-start blip before that, but prior to that, it was another four straight games at just one or two (3.35 ERA total over those 9 starts). He has inarguably been everything the Cubs could’ve realistically hoped he would be, and that’s before you even consider the fact that he wasn’t expected to be in the rotation from day one and then just stay there. If you’re getting 3% better than league average performance from your 6th/7th starter who was forced to become your 4/5 all year, that’s pretty outstanding. The Cubs hold a $6 million club option on Rea for 2026, too.
