LSU safety Tamarcus Cooley got a heartfelt thank you on social media from a person he helped on the side of the road this week.
According to a Facebook post from a woman named Cayla Abad, Cooley came to her rescue as she was attempting to change a blown-out tier on the side of the road. Abad says Cooley stopped to help after he saw her with her children in a risky situation.
Per Abad’s note on social media, Cooley said he stopped to help because he would’ve wanted someone to help his own mother if she were in a similar situation. Here’s an excerpt from Abad’s message:
He said one of the reasons he stopped was because he would want someone to stop and help if it was her on the side of the road. That statement melted my heart. He had so many reasons to keep driving past us—I’m sure he was already exhausted from football practice, it felt like it was 9 million degrees outside, I was beginning to think those lug nuts were welded in place, and cars were speeding by dangerously close to us. Despite all of that, he changed the tire and refused to accept any money from me.

He’s expected to start at safety for the Tigers this fall after playing in all 13 games for the Wolfpack a year ago. He was one of LSU’s biggest transfer additions this offseason on the defensive side of the ball.
Cooley has 3 years of eligibility remaining.
