Presley, who began his singing career in the mid-1950s, died at the age of 42 on August 16, 1977.
Express reported that Bon Jovi opened up about his appreciation for Elvis while filming his 2024 Disney+ docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. In the four-part series, Bon Jovi said he was a fan of the 2022 film, Elvis, wherein Austin Butler played Elvis. The New Jersey native, who was thrust into the spotlight after the release of his band's 1986 album Slippery When Wet, said he was influenced by Elvis.
"I saw the Elvis movie. I love the Elvis movie. I realised how many things that I’d forgotten, but was very conscious of in my career that I had lifted from Elvis. And how many things in that movie touched my life directly," said Bon Jovi, per Express.
In addition, he said he interacted with Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, who died at the age of 54 in 2023, and his wife, Priscilla Presley.
“Lisa Marie came to see me recording Young Guns. She was a kid. Priscilla had called me to do something after he had passed, which I didn’t do. We met [Elvis’ manager] the Colonel," said Bon Jovi in the docuseries. "The Colonel said to [our manager] Doc McGhee, ‘How do you make any money out of five them there Bon Jovis?’ Which I think is one of the great quotes ever."
According to Express, Bon Jovi also complimented Elvis' talent as a musician.
"He was 42 when he died and yet he could sing right until the end. He never lost his voice. Lost everything else, but his voice," said Bon Jovi.
