Riyadh – August 10, 2025 – Saudi Pro League giants Al Nassr have officially announced the signing of Spanish defender Iñigo Martínez from FC Barcelona, bolstering their backline ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 campaign.

A High-Profile Addition to Al Nassr’s Defense The club unveiled the move on its official X (formerly Twitter) account with a welcome video captioned: “A special guest on board… welcome, the warrior.” Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Martínez joins on a free transfer after mutually terminating his contract with Barcelona and has signed with Al Nassr until the summer of 2026.

Martínez’s Career Before Al Nassr The 33-year-old brings a wealth of La Liga experience, having played for Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao before joining Barcelona in the summer of 2023. During his single season with the Catalan club, Martínez made 46 appearances across all competitions, amassing 3,976 minutes on the pitch a testament to the trust placed in him by his former coach.

Defensive Leader with Offensive Contributions Although primarily a central defender, Martínez also showcased his attacking qualities last season, scoring three goals and providing six assists  largely thanks to his aerial prowess and smart positioning during set pieces. On the disciplinary front, he received only nine yellow cards with no red cards, underlining his composure under pressure.

Part of Al Nassr’s Title Ambitions The signing forms part of Al Nassr’s broader strategy to strengthen the squad with experienced and high-quality players as the club targets domestic and continental silverware, including the Saudi Pro League (Roshn League) and the AFC Champions League.

With Martínez’s arrival, Al Nassr sends a clear message about its intent to dominate on all fronts in the 2025-26 season.
