Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Zachary Tower will swim and study in the class of 2029 at the University of California, San Diego. When he made his commitment in March, he wrote on social media:
“I am over the moon to announce my commitment to UCSD! I want to thank Coach Marko, Coach Mo, my parents, and everyone else who helped me get here. I am so excited for the future, go Tritons !”
Tower swam for Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California, for whom he earned a pair of CIF-Southern Section Division III titles in May. He won the 200 free with 1:40.54 and the 500 free with 4:25.76, hitting PBs in both events. He also contributed splits on the 200 free relay (21.77) and 400 free relay (47.88), helping Crossroads win the boys’ team title by 2 points over Beverly Hills High School.
Tower does his club swimming with TSM Aquatics where he specializes mainly in distance freestyle events. He is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 500 free and 200 fly and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 1000/1650 free. He competed at 2024 Winter Juniors West in the 500/1650 free, 200 back, and 400 IM but his best times in those events come mostly from TSM Season Opener, Kevin Perry Invite, and CITI Fall Festival last autumn.
He had a big long course season this summer, picking up new times in the 200 fly (2:04.77) at Grand Challenge, the 400 free (4:00.90) and 200 back (2:11.37) at Los Angeles Invite, and the 800 free (8:15.87) and 1500 free (15:56.61) at Summer Juniors.
Best SCY times:
1650 free – 15:33.03 1000 free – 9:20.96 500 free – 4:25.76 200 free – 1:40.54 200 fly – 1:49.94 200 back – 1:51.63 400 IM – 4:01.52The UCSB men finished 4th at the 2025 Big West Conference Championships. Tower’s best times would have scored in the top 8 of the 500 free and 1650 free and in the ‘B’ finals of the 200 back, 200 fly, and 400 IM.
Tower told SwimSwam, “Outside of swimming I like to cook, surf, play guitar and I love to eat! I have also done well scholastically. My mother competed in indoor volleyball at Colorado College and my father, although he didn’t compete in college, likes to run marathons.”
He will suit up for the Tritons in the fall with Blake Lachey, Jonah Medvinsky, Kyle Kengla, Landon Egeland, Trent Hollandsworth, and William Seymour.
