Kansas City Chiefs training camp has certainly been heating up.
The Chiefs have been putting in their final preparations for their first preseason encounter of the 2025 NFL season.
Head coach Andy Reid is expected to play his starters against the Arizona Cardinals, with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce likely to see just a couple of drives in the first quarter only.
Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s star duo of Chris Jones and George Karlaftis – who has just penned a four-year, $93 million extension with the Chiefs – are both also expected to feature.
However, Jones, the six-time All-Pro defensive tackle, has been seen in a video originally posted to social media platform TikTok, calling out the newly-paid 24-year-old for what appeared to be a lack of effort in one of the Chiefs’ notoriously difficult training camp drills.
“When I was 24, 25, I was doing every f***ing drive full speed,” Jones could be seen yelling at Karlaftis. “You’re 24, 25 and you’re asking for break.”
“I ain’t hearing it. [inaudible] Talk to me when you get 15 sacks then.”
Karlaftis can be heard saying “I will,” to which Jones firmly put his younger teammate in his place: “I ain’t seen it. I ain’t seen it once. Who gives a f***? Do it again.”
The clip of the heated exchange has since been circulated on many other platforms, and one user on Reddit, who claimed to be in attendance at the specified training camp session, provided some additional context to what can be seen in the video.
“I witnessed this in person, right next to it. Was funny as hell,” the user wrote. “The coach was ripping his a** prior to this, so he was getting it from all angles.
“It was [defensive line coach Joe] Cullen laying into him. He wasn’t going hard enough in bag drills. He kept yelling at him to “hit a f***ing bag” and making him do the drill again. At least 3 times in a row if not 4.
“Once that concluded, CJ started in,” the user continued. “Telling him he’s only 24 or 25 asking for a break. It seemed like they were all just really pushing him.
“One thing that was cut out of this video was CJ telling George “make a f***ing Pro Bowl.”
Jones and Karlaftis are known to have a great relationship, both on the field, and off of it.
The 31-year-old turned up to his teammate’s press conference shortly after he signed his extension and told reporters, per The Kansas City Star’s Sam McDowell, “Don’t call him George. Call him g-money.”
Nonetheless, fans absolutely loved Jones calling out Karlaftis with one user writing: “[Jones] Just holding everybody accountable.
“There ain’t no time for rest boys. That’s for losers who go home early in January.”
“CJ is the LAST person I’d want ripping into me. When bro retires, we’re obviously gonna miss his play, but we’re REALLY gonna miss that leadership,” another fan wrote.

Saturday’s outing against the Cardinals will be Kansas City’s first game since the demolition job they suffered at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
But 35-year-old Kelce has already put aside all feelings of a heartbreaking end to a disappointing individual 2024 campaign by his own standards and is ready to chase Vince Lombardi trophy number four.
“I threw that thing in the trash.” Kelce said after Wednesday’s practice. “I’ve moved on. It happened sooner than you can imagine. I was pretty focused on this year in the offseason.”

Despite one of the all-time great tight end’s renewed energy and motivation as he prepares to enter season 13 in the league, some voices around the NFL believe that the Chiefs dynasty may have run its course.
“I think Kansas City, the dynasty part, is over,” media personality Colin Cowherd predicted on his show. “They may win a Super Bowl but I think their division’s too good to be a dynasty...
“They [the Chiefs] deserve all of it, but there’s never been a division with four head coaches that have been to a Super Bowl.”
