The Turkish Ministry of Defense commented on recent clashes between Syrian government forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in eastern Aleppo, stating that the SDF had failed to uphold the March 10 agreement.
In remarks reported by Turkish media outlets including TRT haber on Thursday, August 7, Major General Zeki Aktürk, Press and Public Relations Advisor at the Ministry of Defense, emphasized Turkey’s continued support for Syria’s political unity and territorial integrity. He also reiterated Ankara’s commitment to providing technical and advisory assistance to the Syrian government to bolster its defense and security capabilities against what he termed “terrorist organizations.”
Aktürk warned that the SDF’s latest attacks on the Syrian government in Manbij and rural Aleppo threaten the country’s political unity and territorial integrity, as reported by Sabah, a pro-government outlet.
He further claimed that the SDF was “raising its voice” by capitalizing on the recent unrest in southern Syria, referring to the developments in Suwayda.
Mutual Accusations Amid Escalating Tensions
On August 2, the SDF launched rocket attacks on residential areas in Kiyariya and al-Saeed in eastern Aleppo, injuring four Syrian army soldiers and three civilians, according to the Syrian Ministry of Defense’s media office via the state-run SANA.
The Ministry added that government forces repelled an infiltration attempt by the SDF near a military post in the Manbij countryside, close to the village of Kiariyah.
Enab Baladi’s correspondent in Deir Ezzor reported that Turkish drones struck the SDF rocket launchers responsible for the attack, with unconfirmed reports of casualties among SDF fighters.
The correspondent also noted that an SDF convoy of 14 military vehicles left the 17th Division base, heading toward al-Tabqa city west of Raqqa, near Manbij. The reasons behind this deployment remain unclear. Simultaneously, the Syrian Ministry of Defense reinforced its positions in the al-Khafsah front in eastern Aleppo.
In response, the SDF media office denied the Ministry of Defense’s allegations, accusing “unruly factions” operating within the Syrian government forces of repeated provocations and attacks on frontlines near Deir Hafer.
In a statement, the SDF said that indiscriminate shelling from these factions targeted civilian areas with more than ten artillery rounds on Saturday night, without justification.
On August 4, the SDF reported repelling an assault on four of its positions in the village of al-Imam in Deir Hafer, with clashes lasting approximately 20 minutes. The Syrian government did not comment on the incident.

On July 31, activists circulated photos showing the destruction of Rasm al-Duwali Bridge in Deir Hafer, a key crossing linking SDF- and government-controlled territories.
Two days earlier, on July 29, the SDF erected earth barriers in areas under its control near al- Khafsa and around Deir Hafer in eastern Aleppo.
The March 10 agreement, signed by Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa and SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi, outlines the integration of the SDF’s military and civilian institutions into the Syrian state.
Despite ongoing negotiations and a tentative ceasefire, both parties continue to suggest that a military solution remains on the table should talks fail.
