THE Las Vegas Raiders were dealt a major injury blow after Lonnie Johnson Jr broke his leg.
The safety, 29, played in a practice match on Saturday.
But he suffered the devastating injury following a freak collision.
Johnson was trying to tackle Raheem Mostert.
However, he accidentally made heavy contact with defensive end Maxx Crosby.
The NFL star had to be taken away on a medical cart.
Johnson is set to undergo an MRI scan to see if there is further damage.
His spell on the sidelines is unclear and will be determined by whether he needs surgery.
Realistically, the minimum recovery time is at least ten weeks but could be as long as six months.
Johnson took to social media with a positive message despite the setback.
He wrote on X: “Imma soldier [on] chin up chest out – God got me.”
It means Johnson must wait to make his Raiders debut.
The Indiana-born star spent last year with the Carolina Panthers where he started once and made seven tackles in 15 games.
Johnson broke through with the Houston Texans in 2019.
He has also played in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints.
The Raiders – co-owned by Tom Brady – begin their 2025 NFL season away to the New England Patriots.
