Filip Hrgovic has locked horns with some of the biggest punchers of his generation.
Whether it is as a sparring partner for Deontay Wilder and David Haye or under the bright lights against Daniel Dubois and Zhilei Zhang, the Croatian is no stranger to heavy artillery.
Hrgovic’s bulletproof jaw has stood up to some massive shots, while the 33-year-old can boast to have never touched the canvas in the gym or in competition.
The sole stoppage loss of his career was to Dubois in June 2024, and that came by way of cuts after absorbing 116 blows.
Hrgovic has gone as far as to suggest that he almost never feels his opponent’s punches.
However, Romania’s Mihai Nistor was able to catch his attention during their three-bout amateur series (2-1 Hrgovic).
“I have faced some guys in the amateurs and the WSB who were big punchers,” Hrgovic told talkSPORT.com when asked who the hardest puncher he had ever faced was.
“Some guys who aren’t very famous. For example, this Romanian guy, Mihai Nistor.
“I don’t know what is going on with him. I haven’t seen him in a while.
“He was a big puncher, I always remember his power.
“But I have a really good chin and a big heart, and I don’t feel so much power for many.
“I fought Zhang, who is considered a big puncher, but I didn’t feel his power.
Dubois is the only man to stop Hrgovic, although that was via cutsMark Robinson/Matchroom Nistor became the first man to stop Anthony Joshua when they fought in the amateurs in 2011“I didn’t feel any special power from Daniel Dubois.”
Nistor enjoyed a fruitful 157-fight amateur career (138-19), which included seven national titles and two European bronze medals.
But he is perhaps best known for being the first man to stop Anthony Joshua.
The RSCH win occurred in 2011 en route to Nistor’s first European medal in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
In the third round, Nistor caught AJ with a huge left hook that buckled his knees and sent him stumbling backwards.
As he was held up by the ropes, the referee stepped in and initially administered a count before subsequently waving off the contest.
GettyNistor is 8-0 as a professional[/caption]While Joshua rebounded to win Olympic gold in 2012 before embarking on a world title-winning professional career one year later, Nistor stayed in the unpaid ranks until 2019.
When he eventually turned over, his career was stagnated by injuries and the COVID pandemic.
At the time of writing, he has only had eight pro fights (8-0) in six years and hasn’t boxed since April last 2024.
