We are only 35 days away from the Chicago Bears kicking off their regular-season slate of games with a matchup on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings. There is plenty of time to put work in, and it sounds like this team (particularly the offense) needs it.
From the top, I don’t want to spend too much time spilling virtual ink over Sunday’s practice because THE CHICAGO BEARS PLAY A FOOTBALL GAME THIS WEEK. The first exhibition game of the summer is on Sunday at Soldier Field against the Miami Dolphins. I realize that the preseason isn’t for everyone. But we’ll be here with coverage, and I am looking forward to it. For our readers who have been here for a while, you know my preseason motto has always been “We’ll watch, so you don’t have to,” and I still ride with that to this day. Go enjoy your summer Sunday. BN Bears will be here with everything you need to know from the action. Madison has takeaways from Bears Family Fest at Soldier Field, which was dominated by the defense. It feels like Chicago’s offense should be further along in its development than it is now. Don’t get me wrong. I am cognizant of how much time remains to get things going in the right direction. But it is still disappointing that some of the issues that should have been ironed out by now are still popping up. I’ll say this for Bears Family Fest: To get an announced attendance of 23,000 for a Sunday practice when Lollapalooza is down the street with 100,000 people, and another 39,430 at Wrigley Field for a Cubs-Orioles game says so much about how excited people are to tune in for the Ben Johnson era in Chicago. Now, the first-year head coach needs to get his offense on the right track. It’s a one-liner in Kevin Fishbain’s notes in The Athletic, but mentioning that offensive lineman Ryan Bates spent some time with the starters is eye-opening. Bates joined the Bears last year after an offseason trade, but was limited to three games (105 total offensive snaps) and didn’t stand out even when he was healthy. The 28-year-old Penn State product isn’t a projected starter at this point of the summer, but it makes sense to get him some run with the first team just in case he gets pressed into duty later in the year. But more than anything, it feels important that he is healthy. Edwards about safety Jaquan Brisker:“Brisk is constant energy at all times. Practice is at 8:30 in the morning, so he’s already out there at 8 a.m. Screaming and getting ready and doing all that. You need a guy like that. And obviously, in terms of physicality and what he brings, he’s a great backend force in that way. And I think him and Kevin Byard play well off each other as well. So it’s been good to see him back for sure.”
Per NFLPA release, David White will serve as interim executive director[image or embed]
— Jourdan Rodrigue (@jourdanrodrigue.bsky.social) August 3, 2025 at 10:23 PM Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has more on David White, who takes over after a wild month or so of NFLPA leadership drama. The Detroit Lions want to see more out of backup quarterback Hendon Hooker, so he will get the start in the team’s next preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. (The Detroit News) Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd is dealing with a groin injury. Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur doesn’t believe it will be a long-term issue. However, after Lloyd played just one game last year due to a variety of ailments as a rookie, this is something I imagine Green Bay will monitor closely as the summer chugs along. Something I missed late last week: Vikings offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw is back working out with the team. After being limited to individual drills at the start of camp, Darrisaw was doing team drills at the end of last week. It remains to be seen if the Vikings’ starting left tackle will be ready to roll when the team’s Week 1 game against the Bears comes around. We’ll keep an eye out for updates.MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad-Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
