For McIntosh, this marks her first time winning “Swimmer of the Meet” following a dominant performance that saw her win 4 individual gold medals, along with 1 bronze medal. The young Canadian star picked up victories in the 400 freestyle, 400 IM, 200 IM, and 200 butterfly, along with a bronze in the 800 freestyle. En route to winning those medals, McIntosh also threw down some of the fastest performances in history. In the 200 butterfly, she posted the 2nd-fastest performance of all-time, setting a Championship record of 2:01.99, nearly besting Liu Zige’s 2009 world record of 2:01.81. She also broke the Championship Record in the 400 IM, finishing well ahead of the field with a 4:25.78, just shy of her own World Record in the event. With those performances, McIntosh racked up a total of 22 points.
Marchand picks up his second “Swimmer of the Meet” title after winning it in 2023 as well. Despite racing a reduced schedule compared to the Paris Olympic Games, Marchand still managed to walk away from Singapore with 2 individual gold medals and a world record. Starting his week off with a bang, Marchand wasted no time in establishing himself as the fastest swimmer in history in the 200 IM semi-finals, breaking Ryan Lochte’s longstanding World Record of 1:54.00 by nearly 1.5 seconds with a 1:52.69. In the final, he couldn’t quite match his record-setting time, but still posted the 2nd fastest time in history en route to gold (1:53.68). The 400 IM was Marchand’s only other individual event, which he took full advantage of. In the final, Marchand easily bested the field, winning by 3.5 seconds in a time of 4:04.73 to secure his 2nd title of the week. Marchand’s performance in the 200 IM makes him the only swimmer to have broken an individual World Record in Singapore, contributing to his 12 point total.
