Dallas Cowboys star told the drastic way to end $200million contract standoff with Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones could once again be standing in the way of the Dallas Cowboys.

All-Pro defender Micah Parsons is reportedly looking for a record-breaking contract, but the Cowboys owner seems reluctant to meet his price.

Back in May it was widely reported that initial discussions over a record-setting $200million contract had taken place between Parsons and the Cowboys.

Since then, Myles Garrett and TJ Watt have reset the market with the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers respectively, while Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson remains in contract standoff with the Bengals.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith presented a bold strategy on First Take for Parsons to employ if Jones refuses to meet the asking price.

“If you’re Micah Parsons, and I don’t think it’s going to come to this, please don’t get me wrong,” Smith said while hedging.

“But in the interest of discussing his contractual business, I think he’s gotta be willing to sit out the year. Because I think that’s the only language that Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones at this particular moment is going to understand.”

What would Parsons lose if he sat out?

Sitting out the season would be an extremely bold move by Parsons that would see him forfeit his entire $24 million guaranteed salary.

Despite Smith’s suggested, it does not appear to be a method that Parsons will employ.

Jones prides himself on being a savvy businessman, even at the ripe age of 82, but this seems like a matter of who is willing to budge first.

As it was over the last couple of seasons with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb which eventually ending in record-setting deals.

The Cowboys no doubt want to sign Parsons to a massive extension, but it’s clear Jones isn’t jumping at the moment to do it.

He likes being in the headlines, likes letting things get talked about more than they should.

When training camp opened up Jones thrust himself right into the spotlight when discussing Parsons’ potential new contract.

“Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him. He was hurt six games last year. Seriously,” Jones said.

For the record, Parsons missed four games, not six.

“Contracts are four, five years, OK? There’s a lot of water under the bridge if you step out there and do something in the first two or three,” Jones continued.

“You can get hit by a car, seriously. So there’s a lot to look at over a lot of years that could make a big difference. Have you ever heard of any clubs committing to players and then they didn’t pan out after they committed to them? We have.”

As part of his early training camp address, also Jones appeared to take aim at his franchise quarterback and his four-year, $240 million extension.

“I remember signing a player for the highest-paid position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year,” Jones said.

“Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you can think about, just as the player does, when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”

Jones and the Cowboys committed $231 million guaranteed to Prescott, and back in August last year $100million guarantee to Lamb.

Clearly the brash owner still feels a certain way about the way he spends his money.

An extension between Parsons and the Cowboys will in all likelihood get done before they kick off the season on September 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

And you wouldn’t put it past Jones to try and steal some of the Eagles thunder on the day of the Season Opener.

But if it doesn’t? Then it’s time to panic Cowboys fans.
