The competitive action continues at Goodwood on Thursday and one of the races of the day from a betting perspective is the opener, a 1m2f handicap for three-year-olds only.
One that catches the eye in the betting is Best Adventure who has plenty of experience in his favour in comparison to some of these runners, while there are still clear signs that he’s improving.
This son of Frankel gained a second win of the season when dropped back to this distance at Sandown on his penultimate start and he was only beaten a length in his subsequent outing over the same course and distance.
He paid the price in the closing stages for racing too keenly early in that contest, losing a couple of positions in the final strides, but he ought to get plenty of cover in this much bigger field and that should help him settle better in the early part of the race.
It’s notable that one of the top Irish riders, Shane Foley, skips Galway for a sole ride on the Goodwood card and a bit more juice in the ground will suit his mount, whose latest win came on this sort of ground; he looks like the value play at the early prices.
1.55 Goodwood – Coppull @ 3/1
Coppull ran a massive race at Royal Ascot at big odds and, while he’s much shorter this time around, he looks like a worthy favourite.
Clive Cox’s juvenile defied odds of 14/1 when making an impressive winning debut at Leicester and he was only a neck behind Do Or Do Not at Royal Ascot, a rival that has hit the frame in two subsequent Group 2 starts, so the form has a solid look to it.
The trainer does particularly well in the sprinting division and this speedily bred early foal looks capable of making hay at this point of the season.
3.05 Goodwood – See The Fire @ 2/1
See The Fire has looked highly progressive since the start of 2024 and she may not need to improve again to get a first Group 1 victory on the board.
She followed up her highly impressive York success at Group 2 level with a third to Ombudsman in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and that looks like the best form on offer with the winner going close in the Eclipse since.
Returning to face her own sex could be the key to this filly getting her head in front at the highest level and this race should be run to suit.
