Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have confirmed they will be re-releasing their only duo album together for the first time in 52 years.
The pair, who were famously a couple during their time in Fleetwood Mac before splitting, originally released the record in 1973 – before they even entered the band.
A year later, Buckingham would become acquainted with Mick Fleetwood, who would later offer him a position in Fleetwood Mac after their guitarist Bob Welch quit.
He insisted that he would only join alongside Nicks, cementing both of them on a pathway to becoming era-defining legends of the 1970s.
While the Buckingham Nicks record later disappeared from circulation, and remained unavailable for decades, the mystery and legacy of the album remained – especially when their tumultuous relationship became the inspiration for some of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest songs.
From the album Rumours alone, Go Your Own Way was written by Buckingham about Nicks, and in turn Nicks wrote Dreams about Buckingham.
Silver Springs – a B-side for Go Your Own Way – has been given a new life after going viral on social media, and again features Nicks talking about their relationship breakdown.
But before the heartache, their ambitious debut has now been sourced from original analogue master tapes to be brought up to date for a new vinyl release, as well as streaming and CD.
The pair teased their return on social media last week, finishing lyrics as a sign they were collaborating on something again.
Nicks posted, "And if you go forward…" with Buckingham adding, "...I’ll meet you there."
s sent fans into a frenzy, unsure if it meant new material or the re-release of the forgotten Buckingham Nicks album.
Now we have our answer – but you have to be quick, with special-edition vinyls being severely limited.
The album is available exclusively at Rhino.com and internationally at select Warner Music Group stores – and limited to 5,000 individually numbered copies.
A special version, limited to 2,000 copies, includes two replica 7-inch singles featuring the original single mixes of Crying in the Night/Stephanie, and Don’t Let Me Down Again/Races Are Run.
Buckingham Nicks will be available from 19th September, but is available for pre-order now.
