Manny Pacquiao could end up squaring off against Rolly Romero in his next outing.
The 46-year-old came desperately close to becoming the second oldest world champion in boxing history over the weekend when he was held to a draw by Mario Barrios in a WBC welterweight title fight.
While Pacquiao and Barrios both expressed interest in a rematch post-fight, the Filipino icon’s long-time advisor, Sean Gibbons, insists Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero is the frontrunner to face his client next.
The bout would be easy to make, considering both fighters are promoted by PBC, while Romero’s WBA ‘regular’ welterweight title helps sweeten the deal.
Pacquiao hasn’t addressed the match-up publicly, although Rolly is more than willing to take up the challenge.
“A Hall of Famer on my resume, who wouldn’t want that?” Romero told BoxingScene.
“That’s the easiest way to get into the Hall of Fame, right?”
Romero’s comments come after Gibbons told the same publication: “I don’t see why Barrios again.

The 29-year-old is at the peak of his popularity right now following a career-best victory over Ryan Garcia in May and has experience of selling big PPV attractions.
Most notably, his showdown with Gervonta Davis in 2022, which generated a reported 275,000 buys.
A Pacquiao-Romero fight could fall at the back end of 2025, with Gibbons revealing that the Hall of Famer is planning to return to the ring around his 47th birthday in December.
