ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Multiple fire companies battled flames early Monday morning on the 10th floor of a 15-story apartment building on Lake Avenue.
The Rochester Fire Department says it took 36 firefighters about 30 minutes to control the flames at the building between Phelps Avenue and Lorimer Street. Crews arrived around 4:15 a.m., finding heavy smoke in the hallway of the 10th floor and calling in a second alarm.
Firefighters evacuated an apartment near the hallway but told other residents to shelter in place. Crews went around checking on residents on the upper floors to make sure they were safe from the smoke.
RFD says they contained the damage to the hallway. No one was injured but multiple residents needed to be checked by medics at the scene. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
