San Francisco supervisors approve two-hour limit on RV parking

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco is moving forward with its RV ban after the Board of Supervisors passed a parking time limit on oversized vehicles on Tuesday.

Instead of RVs being allowed to park overnight in the city, this new legislation will cut down the time limit to just two hours citywide.

According to San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie’s office, new outreach teams will be deployed. People living in RVs will be offered permanent or interim housing. The city will offer owners cash to buy their vehicles to get them off the streets.

There are 500 oversized vehicles in San Francisco as of May, and most of those are being lived in, according to the Healthy Streets Operations Center. A permit program will allow certain oversized vehicles to be exempt from the ban.

Those who live in the RVs say they have nowhere else to go.

It is not clear when the ban will go into effect.
