Projecting the Most-Impactful FCS-to-FCS Transfers for the 2025 Season

They’ve already proven themselves in FCS football; now they seek to do it again elsewhere. We’re looking at the 2025 season’s difference-making FCS-to-FCS transfers.

The NCAA transfer portal has become a significant part of the college football landscape since its launch in 2018, basically resulting in more player movement with each year since then.

The spring window has closed for transferring and teams have started to finalize rosters for the 2025 season.

Not every transfer addition is created equally. Multiple programs made headlines by adding players who will make an instant impact, whether it’s an all-conference quarterback or an All-American defensive back.

Our aim is to project the most impactful transfers in FCS football ahead of the 2025 season.

Below are 10 FCS-to-FCS transfers who are set to make instant impacts within their new programs (plus honorable mentions).

Jamar Curtis’ 16 career games with 100+ rushing yards are the most among active FCS players. (Lafayette Athletics)

Jamar Curtis (Lafayette to Sacramento State)

Position: RB; Height: 5-8; Weight: 169

The Skinny: Curtis is an instant-impact addition for the Hornets, giving coach Brennan Marion an explosive weapon in his Go-Go offense. In 34 career games at Lafayette, the two-time All-Patriot League first-team selection and Walter Payton Award finalist posted 3,064 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns. He also served as a threat out of the backfield, catching 74 passes for 505 yards.

Julius Loughridge (Fordham to South Dakota State)

Position: RB; Height: 6-0; Weight: 215

The Skinny: The Jackrabbits lost their top four running backs this offseason, creating a major hole for the national power going into the 2025 season. New coach Dan Jackson made a splash by landing Loughridge, a two-time All-Patriot League first-team selection. In four seasons at Fordham, he rushed for 3,086 yards and 27 touchdowns. He should thrive behind an experienced offensive line, extending the Jackrabbits’ run of elite running backs.

Fordham transfer Julius Loughridge seeks to give South Dakota State a 1,000-yard rusher for the seventh consecutive full season (not including the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign). It’s the longest active streak among FCS programs. (Fordham Athletics)

Elijawah Tolbert (Eastern Illinois to Montana)

Position: LB; Height: 6-1; Weight: 230

The Skinny: Montana enters the 2025 season with plenty of question marks defensively, returning only three players who played over 200 snaps last year. Tolbert is set to step into a major role for the Grizzlies, bringing 33 games of experience from Eastern Illinois. He earned first-team all-conference honors in back-to-back seasons before redshirting last season. In his last two full seasons, he posted 157 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss and four interceptions. He earned preseason Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America honors ahead of his shortened 2024 campaign.

    Jaylon Spears (Nicholls to UIW)

Position: RB; Height: 5-10; Weight: 200

The Skinny: Spears was already set to make a massive impact for Incarnate Word, but his role should increase even more following the departure of running back Dekalon Taylor to Colorado. Spears was limited to two games last season after receiving 2023 Southland Conference Player of the Year at Nicholls. He was one of the more versatile FCS players that year, recording 753 rushing yards, 260 receiving yards and 301 kick return yards. A redshirt junior, Spears should continue to be utilized in a variety of ways at UIW, a national title contender.

Jacob Psyk (Harvard to UC Davis)

Position: DE; Height: 6-3; Weight: 260

The Skinny: UC Davis has lost every starter from last season’s defensive line, but coach Tim Plough addressed the need through the transfer portal. Along with Dartmouth’s Derrell Porter, the Aggies added Jacob Psyk from the Ivy League, and he will be an immediate starter at defensive end. He earned first-team All-Ivy honors after posting 26 tackles, 11 TFLs (third-most in the league) and 6.5 sacks (tied for first).

    Nahil Perkins (Fordham to Samford)

Position: CB; Height: 6-0; Weight: 178

The Skinny: Samford had to replace 10 full or partial starters from last season’s defense, including all four in the secondary. The Bulldogs made headlines by adding Nahil Perkins, who, like Loughridge, was a two-time All-Patriot League first-team selection at Fordham. Over the past two seasons, he’s totaled 118 tackles, seven TFLs, eight interceptions and 29 pass breakups. His 40 career passes defended at Fordham ranked No. 3 in program history.

Nathan Rembert (Mississippi Valley State to Jackson State)

Position: WR; Height: 5-9; Weight: 180

The Skinny: Jackson State has dominated the Southwestern Athletic Conference since 2021, winning three of the past four titles. After the Tigers captured the Celebration Bowl for the first time in program history, coach T.C. Taylor has his sights set on his team repeating as HBCU national champion. Adding Rembert to an already loaded wide receiver unit is just another weapon for returning quarterback JaCobian Morgan. Rembert became MVSU’s first 1,000-yard receiver since 2014 with 1,038 on 70 catches, including four touchdowns, last season. He earned first-team All-SWAC honors.

Kimal Clark (Central Connecticut State to Indiana State)

    Position: S; Height: 5-10; Weight: 195

The Skinny: Indiana State will look to play the dark horse role in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, but the Sycamores will need to see a major improvement defensively. That could start with Clark, who is a two-time All-Northeast Conference first-team selection. He was named the NEC’s 2024 defensive player of the year and was on the Stats Perform FCS All-America third team. Over the past two seasons, Clark has recorded 206 tackles, six TFLs and four takeaways. He will be an immediate upgrade for a team that lost its starting safeties.

Kekoa Visperas (Eastern Washington to Tennessee Tech)

Position: QB; Height: 6-0; Weight: 193

The Skinny: Tennessee Tech exceeded all expectations in coach Bobby Wilder’s first season while earning a share of the OVC-Big South title. Quarterback play helped keep the Golden Eagles out of the postseason, but the addition of Visperas should solve that problem. At EWU last season, he led the FCS in completion percentage (74.3) while also averaging 231.5 yards of total offense per game and posting 26 total touchdowns with only three interceptions. He had an excellent 159.7 pass efficiency rating.

Luke Banbury (Cornell to William & Mary)

Position: LB; Height: 6-2; Weight: 235

The Skinny: This offseason, William & Mary was tasked with replacing multiple starters at linebacker. The addition of Banbury should offer a plug-and-play option for the Tribe as he brings 30 games of experience at Cornell. He earned 2024 All-Ivy first-team honors after leading the league in tackles (87 in 10 games) and ranking top 10 in TFLs (6.5), forced fumbles (two) and interceptions (two).
