A senior Israeli official told the Times that their country found that American and Israeli attacks did not destroy a portion of an Iranian underground stockpile of enriched uranium, with Iranian nuclear engineers still possibly being able to access it.
The senior official did not display worry over Israel’s finding about the enriched uranium making it through the U.S. attack last month, according to the Times. Any Iranian effort to resecure the uranium would most likely be seen, the Israeli official and other Israeli sources said, the Times reported.
The Times also reported that the official said that in 2024, Israel started heading in the direction of military action targeting Iran. The moves by Israel followed the country observing what the official said was Iran moving fast on bomb building by way of a secret project, the official said, according to the Times.
Following the U.S. strikes, President Trump and his top national security brass intensely pushed back on reporting that the Iran strikes set its nuclear program back merely by months. Trump has insisted the program was obliterated.
Trump said he was “all for” long-term peace with Iran earlier this week, but “ready, willing and able” to attack if Iran poses additional threats to the U.S.
“I will tell you that in my view, I hope it’s over. I think Iran wants to meet. I think they want to make peace and I’m all for it. Now, if that’s not the case, we are ready, willing, and able,” Trump said in response to a question on if he thinks the Israel-Iran war is over.
