talkSPORT betting tips – Best bets and expert advice for England v India in the 3rd Test

England’s five-Test series against India is fascinatingly poised after the tourists bounced back with a superb 336-run success at Edgbaston last week.

The Indians were held up by a remarkable 303-run partnership between Harry Brook and Jamie Smith, which seemed to have got England back into the game.

But they dominated the vast majority of the Birmingham Test and are expected to be even stronger at Lord’s with star bowler Jasprit Bumrah refreshed and ready to come back into the side.A chastened England are 17/20 to bounce back with a win, India are 7/5 to go back-to-back and the draw is available at 15/2.

Tourists can take a series lead

India seem to be getting stronger with each game and they can establish a series lead by defeating England at Lord’s.

There would have been a few regrets from the touring side after their first Test loss at Headingley.

Poor tail-end batting and dropped catches contributed to India’s loss at Leeds, but there was an immediate response at Edgbaston, where England were forced to accept a heavy defeat.

The hosts find themselves in the position of needing to respond and part of the plan could involve a recall for Jofra Archer, who hasn’t played Test cricket since 2021.

However, India have a far more reliable bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, ready to step into their side and they look primed to deliver another strong performance.

India have been getting big first innings scores but their seam bowling attack was the main point of difference in Birmingham and it could pave the way for successive victories.

    Pope can silence his critics

Ollie Pope is back under pressure after failing to make an impact in the second Test, but he posted a 106 first-innings score at Headingley and can return to form at Lord’s where he made a career-high best score of 205 in a match against Ireland in June 2023.

Batting in the number three position can be a tough gig, but Pope showed he was up to the task with his superb ton in the opening Test when he was one of the few English top-order batters to cope with the potent pace bowling of Jasprit Bumrah.

The 27-year-old will be preparing for another stern examination at the home of cricket but has the right mindset and technical skills to rise to the challenge.

Siraj should stay among the wickets

India have some fantastic seam bowling options with Bumrah ready to come back into the side and Akash Deep eager to build on his 10-wicket haul at Edgbaston.

But Mohammed Siraj has consistently impressed with his desire to keep running in and hitting the bat hard, and he is starting to get his rewards.

The 31-year-old was the tourists’ star bowler in the first innings at Edgbaston with figures of six for 70, including the crucial wicket of Joe Root for 22.

Siraj bowls with pace and accuracy with the new ball and his aggressive streak comes in handy when tail-enders are at the crease.
