Chicago police issued a community alert for Roscoe Village after a man over the weekend gained entry to a building and proceeded to sexually abuse two 15-year-old girls who were inside.
Police released a photo of the man, who was last seen wearing green shorts and a black hooded sweatshirt.
The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, after a man allegedly entered a building, which was not a home, in the 3400 block of North Damen Avenue through an unlocked door. According to a police source, the building is a church.
Once inside, the man sexually abused two 15-year-old females, police said, and then fled the scene.
Police were asking residents in the area to check their doorbell cameras for surveillance footage of the suspect, and to immediately report any suspicious activity.
“We have been inquiring to see if all available video footage from the residents and businesses nearby has been obtained by police, as Roscoe Village has a good community system of cameras and alerts,” 32nd Ward Ald. Scott Waguespack told NBC Chicago in a statement. “Video footage from nearby businesses has been used in the past to help make arrests, so we are hopeful CPD can utilize it again to catch this offender.”
Residents and neighbors in the area told NBC Chicago the incident was worrisome and concerning.
“…This is a really nice neighborhood,” said Katie Fagan, who lives in the area. “I think it is just a reminder that these things can happen kind of anywhere and that we do live in a big city and we always have to be on our toes and be aware.”
