With the start of business on Monday, Boards of Elections offices across North Carolina will begin taking official entries of candidates in this fall’s municipal election cycle.
Over the course of two weeks, residents of towns in Orange and Chatham counties have the opportunity to enter for non-partisan elected office roles to help lead the local communities and governments. New mayors, town councils, and school board representatives will be chosen by voters in November — and Chapelboro is tracking who has formally entered by filing with the elections boards.
What Positions Are On The Ballot?
Since it is a local election cycle, there are several roles for the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough and Pittsboro on the ballot, as well as seats for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education. Here is the full list of races Chapelboro will be tracking in Orange and Chatham counties this fall:

Filing with the county Board of Elections, though, makes their candidacy official. For those looking to see if they are eligible to enter races, the North Carolina Board of Elections has resources on its website.
As they have formally filed, candidates are listed by alphabetical order of their last names, and incumbents are indicated in parentheses.

What Are Upcoming Important Dates to Know?
The filing period for this local election cycle ends at 12 p.m. on Friday, July 18, while candidates who enter and then decide to withdraw from the ballot must do so by Tuesday, July 15 to receive a refund.
Voter registration for the 2025 cycle will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14 — but one-stop early voting that includes registration will last from Thursday, October 16 through Saturday, November 1. Election Day is Tuesday, November 4.
