Rohit Sharma confirms cricket comeback after India tour of Bangladesh gets postponed

Rohit Sharma, the veteran Indian batsman, announced his retirement from the longest as well as the shortest format of the game and is now designated only as an ODI cricketer on the international platform.

Now, reports in SportsTiger suggest his probable return to the nets with the Mumbai team will be marked from the second week of July. This will be the first time since the end of IPL that Rohit Sharma will be seen with the bat in hand.

Rohit was expected to return to international cricket in India colours on the Bangladesh tour, but now that series has officially been postponed to September 2026.

Citing the retirement from all formats, Rohit decided to focus only on the One-Day format so that he could fulfill his own wish to star for India in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Due to his absence from cricket and playing in only the ODI series, Rohit Sharma could be asked to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the domestic ODI tournament, to prepare for the international level of games.

Rohit has a heavy schedule of ODI matches, even if the 3-match series against Bangladesh is cancelled. He will be part of the ODI series, which will be played against Australia, followed by another tour where South Africa will visit India.

There might also be a series against New Zealand, as cited in the announced schedule by the BCCI.

Rohit Sharma was last seen during the Indian Premier League 2025

Rohit was last seen in the Indian Premier League, where he starred for the Mumbai Indians and played a very crucial role at the top, paired alongside the new opening partner Ryan Rickelton.

Though Suryakumar Yadav might have taken the majority of the credit, Rohit also played a major role in the Mumbai Indians' success. The batter has scored 7046 runs in the IPL career, which is the second-most scored in the history of the IPL.

He struck at a strike rate of nearly 150 and took the Mumbai Indians to the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2, where they lost to the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings. Rohit will continue to star in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians, despite retiring from T20Is and Tests.

When did Rohit Sharma last play in the Vijay-Hazare Trophy?

Rohit, the ODI skipper of the Indian side, last played in the Vijay Hazare trophy back in 2018 during the knockout games of the season. The batter returned to the Mumbai squad against Bihar and Hyderabad in the two knockout games but could not play in the final match of the season.

If Rohit goes on to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy this time around, it will be his return to India's domestic ODI tournament after a long gap of 7 years.
