Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma snubbed; Vaibhav Suryavanshi reveals his real role model

Young India U-19 batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has revealed his new role model in Indian cricket, overlooking modern-day greats like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Vaibhav, who was present in the stands during the India-England Test, named new Test captain Shubman Gill as his role model.

The 14-year-old was spotted at Edgbaston on Day 2 of the second Test between India and England on July 3. Suryavanshi, who is touring England with the India U-19 team, was seen in the players’ balcony alongside his U-19 teammates, watching Shubman Gill and the Indian team take charge with the bat.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi called Shubman Gill a role model. Suryavanshi said that it was inspiring to watch the game alongside his teammates. He also stated that representing India in red-ball cricket remains a dream for every young cricketer, including himself.

“I am feeling very good. This is my first Test in England and I am seeing how the game is going. I am feeling very good. We all came to watch the match. We got a lot of inspiration. Shubman Gill is a role model for us. Everyone’s dream is to play red-ball cricket for their country,” Vaibhav Suryavanshi said in a video shared by the BCCI.

Shubman Gill Breaks Records with Stunning Double Century in England Test

Shubman Gill delivered a record-breaking performance in the second Test with 269 runs, helping India post a massive total of 578. He turned the match in India’s favor and also shattered multiple records.

Gill now holds the record for the highest Test score by an Indian captain in England, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin’s 179. He also went past Sunil Gavaskar (221 in 1979) for the highest score by an Indian in England.

Gill became the first Indian in over two decades to score 150 or more in a Test in England. The 25-year-old batter is the second-youngest Indian captain to register a double century in Tests, behind only MAK Pataudi and ahead of Sachin Tendulkar.

Suryavanshi has carried that form into India U-19’s ongoing tour of England. He recorded scores of 48 off 19 balls, 45 off 34, and 86 off just 31 deliveries in the first three Youth ODIs. The opener played a key role in helping India take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

With two Youth ODIs and two red-ball matches remaining in the series, the young southpaw will be aiming to continue his momentum and finish the tour on a strong note.
