ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A Rochester man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a teen who stole his wife’s car is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday.
Byron Bell Jr. pleaded guilty to manslaughter in September. His sentencing in Monroe County Court has been rescheduled several times and he faces up to 15 years in prison.
Rochester Police say Bell fired shots into the stolen Hyundai SUV back in June of 2023 on Laser Street, killing 18-year-old Ja’hod Snow. Officers say he used the GPS in the SUV to track it down. The shooting happened amid a spike in car thefts, Hyundais and Kias in particular, in the Rochester area.
News10NBC spoke with Snow’s mother, who said she wants justice in the death of her son.
“I want people to understand, no, it’s not right, I’m not condoning these kids out here stealing people’s stuff,” Jamika Hall said. “But a piece of machine over my child’s life — you had a GPS, you could’ve called the police. Like I’m not understanding, why kill my baby?”
