The city of Oceanside will dedicate the segment of the San Luis Rey River Trail between Pacific Street and Benet Road in memory of Jensen Taylor Hughes, a resident who died in a cycling accident on the trail. Jensen was the daughter of Jeff and Robin Hughes and sister to Sara, Jeremiah, and Daniel Hughes.
Jensen graduated from El Camino High School, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. She holds a degree in Political Science with an emphasis on International Relations and a Master’s in Global Security. Jensen was involved in environmental advocacy, student mentoring, and refugee support. She coordinated campaigns addressing hunger, homelessness, renewable energy, and access.
Memorials for Jensen have been placed at the Benet Road and Pacific Street entrances to the trail. A dedication ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on July 18 at the Pacific Street entrance. Family, friends, and community members will gather to remember Jensen.
