Harvey Elliott has surpassed two England international with a huge goal in the European Under-21 Championship final.
The Liverpool star opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock against Germany thanks to a fine finish past Noah Atubolu.
Elliott has been on an excellent run of form during the tournament and now extended his goal tally in Slovakia to five.
But his latest strike has also seen him outdo two former Young Lions.
Now on 14 goals for the England U21s, he has overtaken Alan Shearer and Francis Jeffers to go second in the all-time rankings.
The respective ex-Newcastle and ex-Arsenal stars netted 13 times each in their youth days before promotion to the senior side.
Only Eddie Nketiah has scored more than Elliott with 16 goals in 17 appearances from 2018 to 2021.
Elliott has also become the second England player to score five times at the U21 Championships – after Mark Hateley in 1984, who netted on six occasions.
Furthermore, his 11 total appearances is more than any Three Lions star at any level.
England’s night got even better shortly before the half-hour mark as Omari Hutchinson fired in through the legs of Atubolu to make it 2-0.
However, Germany pulled one back just before half-time courtesy of Nelson Weiper.
Lee Carsley’s side finished second in Group B behind Germany and lost their clash 2-1.
Elliott has made England U21 historyGettyBut England turned on the style with a 3-1 quarter-final win against Spain before defeating the Netherlands 2-1 to reach the final.
Should they emerge triumphant later on Saturday evening, they will a second consecutive U21 Euros title.
England last won back-to-back tournaments in 1982 and 1984.
They will go third in the all-time winners’ chart behind Spain and Italy, who are both on five titles.
