The 2010 Golden Globe Winner Set to Receive Unexpected Sequel

It's been been just over 20 years since the creation of Facebook -- the global social media network that forever changed the way people interact with each other over an online platform.

Connecting upwards of three billion users together on one massive shared interface, Facebook and its parent company Meta has shaped the world in more ways than we can possibly imagine. From reuniting with former childhood acquaintances to interacting with like-minded individuals in an online community, the social media giant continues to impact the larger around us through social connection, politics and media.

As Meta continues to maintain its taut hold over the world today, an upcoming new film will measure its influence over the current state of the world. Most fascinatingly, this new movie will serve as a groundbreaking second act to 2010's globally renowned drama film, The Social Network.

Written by The West Wing's Aaron Sorkin and directed by Fight Club's David Fincher, The Social Network focuses on the founding of Facebook by its controversial creator, Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg). Covering the social media's app gradual transformation from an Ivy League start-up into one of the biggest companies of the 2000s, it also focuses on some of the various lawsuits Zuckerberg was involved in, including several legal battles involving Facebook's co-founders.

Released in late 2010, The Social Network earned universally positive reviews from critics and viewers alike, later securing Golden Globe Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score.

Over the years, writer Aaron Sorkin has routinely expressed his hopes for one day writing a second chapter to The Social Network. Now, it seems like the A Few Good Men screenwriter will finally get his wish, with Sorkin returning to both write and direct the second act to The Social Network.

Based on the Wall Street Journal‘s The Facebook Files, the new film will act less as an outright sequel to The Social Network than it will a deep-dive into Facebook's most notorious recent controversies, including its effect on American politics and impact on younger users.
