NFL fans have questioned just how much insight they will get from the new season of Netflix’s hit show ‘Quarterback’ after spotting who one of the stars is this time round.
The show, which follows NFL QBs throughout the season in a documentary style, returns to fans’ screens on July 8 for a second season.
Fans are excited to get the inside scoop from the NFL campaign, but seemed shocked to find out that one of the three quarterbacks that were followed by the Netflix camera crew last season is Kirk Cousins.
Cousins, 36, joined the Atlanta Falcons last year after signing a four-year $180million deal.
But after a promising 6-3 start in Atlanta, Cousins hit poor form in the next five games – throwing a league-leading 16 interceptions, losing four of those five outings and ultimately losing his place as a starter too.
The veteran QB was subsequently benched for rookie Michael Penix Jr after Week 16, leaving fans teasing if they will be watching Cousins spending his time on the bench during the documentary next month.
In reaction to the season two trailer on social media, one fan wrote: “Wasn’t he benched for the whole year?”
While another added: “Why is Cousins on there? He’s a backup now”.
A third joked: “Can’t believe Kirk agreed to this”.
And a fourth simply posted: “Poor Kirk”.

Of course, there will still be plenty of action to watch from the start of the campaign during Cousins’ purple patch, while most fans will be intrigued to see how the four-time Pro Bowler dealt with the blow of being dropped later on in the season.
Cousins was also part of the season one set of quarterbacks, joining Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota as the focal points of the season during his time with the Minnesota Vikings.
This time round Cousins is being joined by Cincinnati Bengals star QB Joe Burrow and Detroit Lions thrower Jared Goff for season two of the show.
Cousins has been labelled as “the NFL’s highest paid backup quarterback” after losing his place to Penix Jr so soon after penning his $180m deal.
But the experienced pro, who is entering his 14th year in the league, has been told to “stick with it” by a former teammate of his.
Former Washington signal-caller Rex Grossman, who worked with Cousins in his rookie year, told CardPlayer.com’s Kyle Odegard: “Michael Penix Jr. is a really talented young quarterback, but that’s not exactly a guarantee either.
“He could get hurt. He’s gotten hurt quite a bit. (Cousins is) an expensive backup, but you’ve got a quarterback on a rookie deal.
“I would stick with it unless there was a player or pick you couldn’t turn down. We’ll see how it turns out, but as a fan and a friend, I’d like to see (Cousins) play.”
