The reconfigured interchange connecting the 71 Freeway with the 91 Freeway in Corona is now fully open after more than two years of construction work.

The 71/91 Interchange Project, underway since winter 2023, underwent final touch-ups that required closures through the past weekend. But the transition opened for drivers traveling onto either corridor early Monday, June 23.

The expressway, too, has been realigned to create space for the new connector.
More than one-third of the project’s funding — $58.1 million — was provided by the California Road Repair & Accountability Act of 2017, which raised gasoline taxes to pay for infrastructure and other projects. The county’s Measure A receipts, generated by a half-cent sales tax, have covered a share of the expense, while federal and other sources make up the difference.
