President Trump on Monday responded to Iran's attack on the Al Udeid U.S. Air Force base in Qatar, calling Tehran's retaliation “weak” before urging for "Peace and Harmony," including with Israel.
“Iran has officially responded to our Obliteration of their Nuclear Facilities with a very weak response, which we expected, and have very effectively countered. There have been 14 missiles fired — 13 were knocked down, and 1 was ‘set free,’ because it was headed in a nonthreatening direction. I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done,” Trump said on Truth Social.
The president also revealed that the U.S. received early notice about the attack, which he thanked Iran for as it allowed for no casualties on the base.
He added, “Most importantly, they’ve gotten it all out of their ‘system,’ and there will, hopefully, be no further HATE. I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured," he said.
Trump then turned to signal toward all sides standing down in a conflict that pulled the U.S. into attacking Iran's three nuclear facilities following a dayslong campaign by Israel who continues to strike inside the country.
"Perhaps Iran can now proceed to Peace and Harmony in the Region, and I will enthusiastically encourage Israel to do the same. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The president thanked Qatar in a second statement for “seeking Peace for the Region” and added that while no U.S. troops were harmed, “there have also been no Qataris killed or wounded.”
“CONGRATULATIONS WORLD, IT’S TIME FOR PEACE!” Trump added in another Truth Social.
The strikes on the base in Qatar occurred while Trump was meeting with his national security team to discuss the situation in the Middle East.
The Iranian response came after the U.S. strikes on three of the country's nuclear facilities over the weekend. After the strikes, a spokesperson for the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Qatari air defenses “thwarted the attack and successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles.”
Additionally, the Department of Defense said the Iranian attacks were from short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles and reported no casualties earlier Monday.
Qatari officials had closed the nation’s airspace in anticipation of the strikes, citing “concern for the safety of citizens, residents, and visitors” and the U.S. Embassy in Qatar had also advised U.S. citizens in the country to “shelter in place until further notice.”
