WASHINGTON, D.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Leaders all over the world are weighing in on Operation Midnight Hammer, including many close to home.
"I found out by watching, I was watching the news and I heard it when it came on and that's not the way Congress should operate," said Congresswoman Alma Adams.
The Democrat representing North Carolina learned with the rest of America of the U.S. strikes on three key nuclear facilities in Iran.
"He should have reached out to all of us, and we should have known ahead of time and not after the fact," she said.
Adams isn't the only lawmaker criticizing the move and the lack of communication.
Congresswoman Deborah Ross released a statement saying in part:
“This unilateral action by the United States was unlawful and unconstitutional. Both the law and the Constitution are clear: only Congress has the power to declare war. The president did not appropriately consult Congress, let alone seek authorization for the attack."
Congressman Ralph Norman from South Carolina praised the move by Trump.
"The president had every right to, has got the obligation to protect America and this is showing there's a new sheriff in town," said Norman. "The world is a safer place. Americans' democracies are safer. Our friend Israel needed our help. We helped them and it's a it's a new day in this country and it's so uplifting to see this president take these actions."
Other Republicans took to X to share their support, including Sen. Thom Tillis.
This was the right decision by @POTUS: we cannot allow Iran to build nuclear weapons. God Bless our brave servicemembers who supported and executed this mission. ??????
— Senator Thom Tillis (@SenThomTillis) June 22, 2025Some lawmakers are concerned about potential retaliation.
"I think it has possibly escalated the situation in a way that will hurt a lot of people in terms of our citizens," said Adams. "It will hurt our troops and so forth and maybe even put, put Israel at risk as well."
Others aren't worried.
"If it happens, it happens," said Norman. "But this person's ready for it. I mean, he wouldn't have done this if he was scared about retaliation."
Norman told Queen City News there will be an intelligence briefing on Tuesday for lawmakers.
