Australian electronic outfit The Avalanches announced Thursday (Aug. 6) that its fourth studio album, No Bad Memories, will arrive Oct. 16.
A press release about the project says that thematically, it explores ideas related to “the simultaneously magical and insidious ways that advertising and name-brand technology wraps itself around our memories,” with the album being”an ambivalent ode to the nostalgic pull of commercial jingles, proprietary start-up sounds and long forgotten audio logos.

The news arrives in tandem with a fresh album single, “Can’t Get Over Losing You,” a buoyant swirl of kickdrum, handclaps and synth that features vocals from Louisiana-born artist/producer Portraits of Tracy.
This new single is the fourth from No Bad Memories and follows “Together” featuring Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza and Prentiss, “Every Single Weekend” featuring Jamie xx and “Blue Shadows” featuring Karen O. Released by Modular Recordings Pty Limited, the album will contain 31 songs in total, with the names of the 27 forthcoming ones not yet announced. See the album cover art below.
“It’s been interesting as adults to reflect on this often stunning period of marketing – the creativity, filmmaking, photography and music – but which was also – you know, selling a completely unobtainable dream,” the group says in a joint statement. “The way we value devices and products; the way we reflect and represent ‘a life lived’; the wonder of memory and deep power of nostalgia, especially in sound. Revisiting imagery and jingles from childhood and realizing how profoundly they have stuck… Taking these sound sources from within the heart of this kinda corporate framework and flipping the fragments into our own kind of joyous pop music … eventually we arrived at this world of No Bad Memories.”
No Bad Memories is the group’s first studio album since 2020’s We Will Always Love You.
