Ben Stokes’ X-rated rant caught on camera as England captain smashes bat off ground in frustration

Ben Stokes couldn’t hide his frustration at getting out on day three of the first Test between England and India.

The England captain was the pick of his team’s bowlers, taking four wickets.

However, his batting form has deserted him for some time now in Test matches, and his poor run continued here.

The Durham all-rounder was at the crease with Harry Brook and trying to help England chase down India’s first innings score of 471.

He had managed to scratch his way to 20 before edging a Mohammed Siraj delivery into Rishabh Pant’s gloves.

It was a disappointing dismissal for the England icon, who could have left the delivery alone.

Instead, he prodded at the ball outside of his stump, and it flew straight into Pant’s gloves.

Stokes was left fuming with himself and immediately threw his bat into the air.

Siraj was mobbed by his teammates and Stokes had no choice but to trudge off.

    Stokes couldn’t believe what happenedGetty

As he was walking off, he slammed his bat off the ground and could be seen shaking his head and mouthing, ‘f***’ and ‘s***’.

Clearly, he was annoyed, and the moment was described on talkSPORT’s commentary by Neil Manthorp.

He said:”Mohammed Siraj has made a vital, vital breakthrough.

“Stokes throws his bat in the air like a majorette’s baton, it twirls in the air, and he catches it before it lands on the ground in disappointment and disbelief.

“Siraj has his reward and England have lost their fifth wicket.”

It marked another disappointing batting innings in Test cricket for Stokes.

The England captain is a player who is capable of the spectacular with the bat and ball, delivering some of the most memorable batting displays.

However, it has been a while since the 34-year-old scored a Test century, with the last one against Australia at Lord’s in 2023.

He hasn’t even scored that many half centuries with seven since that last 100.

His batting form over the last year has been even more disappointing, scoring a single 50.

For a player who prides himself on being involved in all parts of the game these statistics will be disappointing, which probably explains his reaction to getting out here.

His dismissal has left the opening Test of this five-match series in the balance.

England won the toss and elected to bowl first on a baking hot day, and they were punished as India finished on 359-3 on day one.

The start of day two was much better for the hosts as they managed to take the last seven wickets for just over 100 runs.

But their innings couldn’t have started much worse with Jasprit Bumah getting Zak Crawley out inside the opening over.

Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope established a solid platform, with Duckett making a half century and Pope grabbing a 100.

Stokes’ wicket leaves Brook and Jamie Smith at the crease, and they are moving the scoreboard along nicely.
